Marco Misuri

As far as my  my personal experience is concerned, I began to work on 7th September 1971, the day of my 17th birthday, at the laboratory of Bruno Lastrucci which was located in his house at St. Margherita a Montici, where each summer the American artist Richard Blow came to have  realised in mosaics the sketches he had drown throughout the year; Blow was a great creator of chromatic forms and compositions, sadly he was never satisfied of what he created and what was created for him, in constant research of perfection, he forced Lastrucci to change the various parts again and again, so that the work dragged on with fatiguing slowness.

My work at that time consisted in refining the work, practically the cut of materials, levelling and polishing, very instructive years however, consistent with the common methods of teaching of the time. Lastrucci was and is a most charismatic person, so I followed him when he became director of Arte Musiva, where I was entrusted to most experienced teachers who patiently taught me their working methods; with great affection I want to remember the maestri: Fabio Renai, Carlo Borgheresi and Rolando Casini. I was given the greatest liberty of expression by Lastrucci and Dr. Parenti. Those where years when creativity was highly rewarded and one tried to abandon the traditional working methods, this leaded me, through more and less pleasant times, to enriching my experience, which has been fundamental for my creative and cultural development.

In that period I had the opportunity to represent the Arte Musiva on various fairs in Europe and America: Among these I like to recall the one of 1978 at the great Harrod’s of London that was a point of interest for Italian radio and television as well as for English newspapers, I don’t want to deny that this encouraged my self-esteem, and more importantly I realised that time had come to stand on my own legs, so though maintaining very good relationship I asked for and was granted to work on my own without constraints.
As far as my income was concerned this was not the most favourable decision but it gave me new inspirations.

In 1997 my working relation with Arte Musiva and its new management finished and I began a tortuous way during which I found Renzo Scarpelli on my side, a person extremely righteous and loyal with whom I found myself working together and who supported me providing me with suggestions and working contracts and who gave me new ideas for my work and more on line to my character.
Our relationship still goes on even today notwithstanding the distance.
